Note to Gift Fic Writers

Hi to anyone writing me a gift/exchange fic!
First, thank you.
In the spirit of making your efforts a little easier, I'm going to tell you a secret.
I'm not a pairings person.
I like characters first, and stories that emphasize characterization. If you want to include pairings, that's fine too. I'm happy with pairings having any level of presence from being only casually mentioned to being deeply significant. They're really not necessary, though. I only ask that any included pairings be canon, unless I've indicated otherwise.
I know this makes me really unusual in a fandom culture that privileges pairings over any other relationships, which is why I'm posting this note.
I'm also a huge fan of non-sexual relationships such as friendships, rivalries, parent-child, and mentor- or teacher-student. You cannot go wrong focusing on those.
Again, what's important to me is the characters in and of themselves.
Thanks again for the story you're writing, and I'm looking forward to reading it.
