Back when I was writing "Proud of You," I needed to know when the events of the Season 1 occurred. So, being the kind of fan I am, I attempted to map them. Some of the dates are best-guesses based on comments in episodes (e.g. the party is on Friday), some are best-guesses based on what dates exist, and some are verified by in-canon date markers.

This whole thing is done to the best of my observational ability. Errors and oversights will gladly be corrected. However, I'm not the one who thinks that the full moon actually occurs once a month.

This is still very much a work-in-progress.

** The flyer says that the dance is on Saturday, February 7th. It also names the location as Becon (sic) Hills High School. Since the 7th is taken, I'm chalking the discrepancy up to a lazy copy editor.

This is so awesome and helpful! Thank you so much for sharing!
I'm currently rewatching season one, so I'll let you know if I find anything else that can be helpful :)

Please do. I keep tinkering with it, but there's still stuff that doesn't quite make sense timing wise.

Hi, back again, but more with a suggestion than with anything really helpful to add. Do you think it would be possible to clarify what events happened in which episodes? Like I noticed the events for "Second Chance at First Line" all had some kind of notation, but Derek getting shot and Kate arriving didn't even though those took place during "Magic Bullet". Does that make sense or am I just making things more complicated than they need to be?

Things like Derek arriving and Kate getting shot weren't specified as being in "Magic Bullet" because I thought everyone would know that. I just went through and put episode notations in most places. If this wasn't what you were asking for, please let me know and I'll try to fix it.

Yeah, things like that are pretty common knowledge I'd think, but I've learned not everyone is on the same page sometimes. Also, I think the added notations just make things clearer and more consistent across the board, so someone can tell at a glance what happened when.

Thanks for taking the time to add the notes. You're awesome. :)

I don't know if the added notations do make things clearer, but I'm always happy to work toward those ends. :) Let me know if you think of anything else.

This post is getting linked around on tumblr in response to all the screwed-up timeline stuff in the most recent episode, so thank you for making it. Question: how did you decide the day/date lineup? I've been assuming the show takes place in 2011, but in 2011 January 1 was a Saturday. Is there a piece of canon that I'm missing?

how did you decide the day/date lineup?

Mostly by working backwards and making a lot of educated guesses (and a few wild leaps of logic). We're given a few definitive days--like the party in 1x01 being on a Friday and the night-before-"Lunatic" being a Sunday--so once I had the date of the "Night School" attack, I went from there.

The radio announcer in "Lunatic" specifically says that the school was closed on Thursday and Friday, which strongly implies that the attack was Wednesday night. It simply wouldn't make sense for the attack to have been any other day with the result of school being closed on Thursday and Friday.

I've been assuming the show takes place in 2011

The show definitely takes place in 2011. There's too much evidence to support that, not the least of which is Kate's tombstone.

but in 2011 January 1 was a Saturday

Yeah. I noticed that too. The only solution I have is that it's an imaginary 2011.

In what might be an unrelated point, February, March, and November 2010 have a calendar that match the day/date match up here. March 2010 is probably when, I believe, the pilot filmed. It's not inconceivable that JD timelined the first couple episodes based on the month he wrote them in. He did say somewhere that the timeline was carefully planned (though, clearly only in the first season) so that everything happened in about six weeks. He made a joke that, with that schedule, he could keep the kids in high school for ten years.

Once again, the amount of thought you've put into this is awesome and I love it a lot. (You've saved me so much work!)

Hmm, the timing of the pilot filming makes sense. I knew going into this show that it was way too much to ask them to keep to any sort of reasonable lunar calendar, because they need the full moon for plot purposes, but I wish they would at least remember what year it is. (Lately they've been saying that people who graduated high school in 2006 are 24 "now", and uh...not in March of 2011, they're not.)

You're very welcome. I'm always glad when others are able to benefit from my obsessions :)

but I wish they would at least remember what year it is.

They're wonky about this. Jackson's birth year being 1995 works, as it puts him at 16-almost-17 for the show. Then again, there's what you said.

but if it's 2011 and his birthday is in June, he's 15-almost-16. :/

(And if Derek's driver's license is canon - no guarantees of that - then he's just-turned-22, not whatever else people think it is.)

You're quite right. Normally, I'm better at math than that.

In that case, I shall pretend that I did the math correctly and that full moons fall on regular schedules.

Thanks!

I think American viewers are conditioned to assume that teen shows are operating on the academic year. It makes sense because the TV season and the school year are the same, and most teen shows *do* start at the beginning of the school year. You're far from the only person to make that assumption about Teen Wolf. :)

For the sake of a lot of stories, they need to roam Calendarless Town, as there's so little room in the calendar for other things to happen. For the rest of the time, your gratitude is appreciated :) I'm glad you like the calendar. Please let me know if you think anything needs correcting.
