Fest: Crossovering
Jun. 24th, 2016 01:25 pmPeople are allowed to nominate up to 8 fandoms. The top ~100 nominations with the most votes will get in, so if there's something you particularly want to see made available, go add your vote. In the past two years, I've had 6 of my 8 noms make the cut. This year I'm hoping for all 8, obviously, but I expect to see 5, unless there are silent fans out there.
For the record, my nominations this year are:
The Tomorrow People (2013)
The Listener (TV)
Forever (TV)
Highlander: the Series
Arrow
DC's Legends of Tomorrow
Houdini & Doyle
Now You See Me
I've already started thinking about prompts, and I have a couple I'm eagerly waiting to share.

Date: 2016-06-24 08:43 pm (UTC)What I like about NYSM is the heist and Robin Hood aspects combined with the scale of the tricks. A lot of what I enjoyed in the movies won't translate to page, I suspect, but I think there's room for the whole thing where our characters find new and interesting ways to do exactly what they say they're going to do while still tricking you.
For me, the biggest crossover potential is where the NYSM characters have some run in with people who have actual powers. Perhaps they need to incorporate real magic into their act. Perhaps they have to find a way to "demystify" a real power so it seems like it's only an illusion. Perhaps their act goes wrong because of someone with powers and they have to improv around it.
I realize looking over my list that a few of the fandoms have someone in it who passed off their power as stage magic (Eg Monty the Magnificent (TP), Danny Cimoli (Highlander), Toby Logan (Listener) (sort of)). Plus there's that fandom with Houdini in it, tho finagling the timeline would be a problem.
One prompt I want to throw out there (that is, incidentally, beyond my abilities) is: NYSM/Highlander, "It's a kind of magic."
Honestly, I never thought about writing fanfic for this movie either. A quick scroll through AO3 shows that the produced fanfic isn't at all to my taste because it doesn't seem to include any of what I liked in the movies. However, the conflict of stage magic vs. real powers intrigues me and I'm curious to see what stories lay there.
