Meme: 30 Days of Fanfic
Sep. 20th, 2015 11:30 pmI'm combining a few days here because my answers were so short that they didn't seem to merit a whole post.
4 – Do you have a "muse" character, that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse?
No, I can't say I do.
5 - If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?
I've had characters show up in fics by surprise, though they're not generally pushy about it. If a character seems to want to be in a fic, I let them. I've found that this generally bodes well for the story.
6 - When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?
I can't say I have a preference. At least, not for myself. I do so much writing for exchanges that I try to write characters that my recipient asked for, which presumes their preference. When writing unprompted, I do tend to write more with male characters because, let's face it, they're usually the ones with the superpowers. That said, I have four stories over 25K on AO3. Two of them are male character POV and two of them are female character POV. Oddly, the two FPOV stories are also the one that are completed, while the other two are WIPs.
teaotter included an addendum on this question for race. I like that, so I'm stealing it. Thanks to Teen Wolf, the bulk of my stories feature a Latino. Thanks to the Tomorrow People I have multiple stories with black women at the front (including one of my 4 longfics). All of the rest feature white people, with USians, Canadians, English, and Australians represented based on the source fandom.
So, I guess the short answer continues to be: I'll write whomever I think will helm an interesting story.
