The number of "Marked for Later" stories is intense. The number that's been sitting there for years is just scary. (I'm also a very slow reader, so what might take someone else an hour to get through takes me days ... or longer.)

I'm very reassured that this isn't just me. I'm voting for there not to be a rec-prompt next year because I feel so overwhelmed by them. I don't need any more recs, I need time to read the things that were recommended to me two years ago that I still haven't gotten around to.

I always knew I was a bit of a slow reader, but I didn't realize how much slower until the last Harry Potter book hit the bookstores. A bunch of my friends went to a premiere book sale (I can't recall if I was too lazy to go or if I had volunteered to be the adult who stayed home with their kids), but they came back and we had a house full of people all quietly reading the book as quickly as they could and even though everyone started at once, three our four people had already finished when I was still several chapters from the end, so they went out for a food run so they could squee about it in the car without spoiling anyone. And another friend started late for some reason and yet was nearly caught up to me when I finally finished it. And Harry Potter books aren't even a heavy read in terms of language and grammar. I'm just… distractable. The only reason I was even able to finish the book as quickly as I did was because so many people were desperate for me to finish so they could discuss it without spoiling anyone. (And honestly I didn't enjoy it much or remember much about it, partly because I was pushing myself to read it so quickly.) I like to be able to read a few pages and stop and think about it, y'know? I'm not dumb, but sometimes my brain is just slow and I need a little extra time to assimilate new information before I'm ready for more.

I still haven't seen Far From Home, but it's on my list. I hadn't even been enthusiastic about seeing Homecoming because I viewed it as "yet another Spiderman reboot". But then I feel in love with Tom Holland's portrayal in Infinity War and went back to watch Homecoming and he's so perfect.
