Not sure if this counts as creating, though there's certainly creation involved...

Recently, a discussion with some Highlander fans on Facebook led me to realize that Sandra McDonald's classic Richie story, "Tough Guy," was not easily available online anywhere. As she and I happen to be FB friends, I reached out to her about sharing it. One thing led to another, and now Sandra's work will be moving to Ao3.

For anyone who cares about permissions and protocols, I want to make it clear that Sandra fully authorizes this account, chose the username, and has the password. However, she gave me permission to upload the stories on her behalf because I have them in digital form and I have the time.

The plan is to post her stories slowly, so as not to completely flood the tag. As I am not rereading them first (because if I did that, we'd be here for years), any information about characters/relationships, ratings, tags, and summaries is either coming from old notes, my memory, or any info that other people are sharing with me. Thanks are already due to several members of Cranky who have helped format the stories and supply additional information. Corrections are always welcome!

With that, I'm happy to say that "Tough Guy" is now back online!

Thank you! I honestly don't know why I didn't think of it a decade ago. I used to host her stories back before Ao3 existed, so it would have been a natural progression.

Cool so much older fandom gets lost (says someone who has lost a few dozen stories due to computer failures and the loss of all the webpages from the early 00s

I'm not positive yet whether this is the author I think I remember, or whether memory has mixed-and-matched two authors, but I am positive that I will enjoy reading and/or re-reading her stories!

I wish we could get the word out broadly to many, many authors that many readers would love to find their work on the AO3... someone contacted me out of the blue a few months ago to ask me to update my old FK website -- to which I haven't really had much access during the pandemic because of which computer has to be set up where, and also haven't updated since, um, 2012, anyway? -- to link to her stories on a new personal website; it seemed that she'd not yet heard of the AO3.

You will definitely enjoy Sandra's stories! They're the Richie stories we wished the show had given us.

That's interesting about the person who contacted you. Ao3 had been around so long now that I have a hard time imagining anyone who writes fic online not knowing about it.

I hope she gets an account setup and her stories moved over. The more, the merrier.

I loved Sandra McDonald's stories and always felt bad they weren't available. To me they are the quintessential Duncan/Tessa/Richie family stories (in addition to all the other great stories she wrote). It's great that you're doing this. Thank her and thank YOU!
