Exchanges! The season begins.

I've signed up for hlh_shortcuts! This was never in doubt, but it's great to have it done. Also, sign-ups went live a little early this year and that makes it even more exciting.

I'm waffling on yuletide_admin, though. Do I have enough eligible fandoms to nominate? Are there enough potential fans out there that I'd match with someone? Dare I throw Raven into the mix and double the Highlander fun? Hmmmm...

yay for exchanges season :D I've got to figure out which ones I'm going to participate in. Speaking of Yuletide, I always wonder if I have enough to match with someone too. But it's worked out the last two years. This year I really want to see some Humans (TV) fic!

I sat out last year. The small fandoms I'm into are now so small (and moribund) that there's generally only one person I match with--which is fine, except we've written each other so many stories over the years that I don't really see the point of doing so as a function of Yuletide.

What else are you looking to nominate? I do have Shazam! to consider this year. But not much else.

I'm thinking about The Living and The Dead (TV), 13 Reasons Why, or Bradley James' podcast "Are You Having a Draft?". I know I'm forgetting some others, but I'll have to think about it.

I was always under the impression HL: the Raven wasn't eligible, but maybe enough time has passed that it's eligible again.

Raven is extremely eligible. I know it's been in before and received fic. Time wouldn't make any difference to the eligibility; only the number of stories and whatever current rules are governing spin-offs.

At one point Amanda would've been ineligible because of her presence in the Series and the number of stories that fandom has. Last I checked, that rule was dropped. Even so, if I did nominate Raven, I'd be looking for fic focused on some of the minor characters, so whether or not Amanda was eligible would be moot.

I have seriously debated nominating Highlander: the Watcher, but I'm starting to suspect I may be the only one who liked it.

Huh. I haven't written for Yuletide in eons. As for Highlander: the Watcher and its sequel, I haven't watched it yet and am a little leery of doing so.

Why's that?

If you scroll back through my DW, I have a review posted. Short version: it's definitely a fan movie. The fan budget is obvious. But it's clearly a fan movie and not a I-want-my-Mary-Sue-to-reign or I-have-a-bone-to-pick movie. It's fun, if not groundbreaking. And it's loads better than The Source.

Eh, more stuff to watch that isn't HL? Also, if I wasn't currently trying to write something that feels like canon, I might be more inclined, but I don't need the distraction right now. :-)

Other stuff to watch is totally valid. You said leery, though, so I thought something about the movie was putting you off.

I've watched about 15 minutes of it, enough to decide, eh, maybe later. :-) Some of the details regarding the production and staging (even allowing for a fanmade film) made me hesitate in watching the rest. I had the same reaction to watching the original series of Star Trek, mind. It has to do with giving me enough staging and/or character development to suspend my disbelief and not pay too much attention to the props and scenery, because if you let me, I will dissect and remember where the knife was on the shelf in scene 1 that you conveniently pretended just magically appeared.

Well, if you do watch it, try not to notice the boxed sets of HL DVDs clearly visible in the background of one scene.
