Over the run of the show, it was cancelled no fewer than three times. Each time the fans rallied and convinced the right people to bring it back. It's one of the few examples of a sustained fan protest that worked. By the end of the third season, the writers and producers wanted to make it VERY CLEAR to the fans that the show was OVER and there would be no bringing it back. So they killed off everyone.
